WHAT CAN I MAKE? / LIVE TOOL

Start with the material. Find the project second.

Most calculators begin with a project and tell you what to buy. This one works backward: tell us what is already in your garage, basement or workshop.

1. What do you have?

Use the real dimensions of the full pieces you still own. You can test another batch separately.

WHY THIS TOOL IS DIFFERENT

A project idea generator built around material you already own

A normal material calculator starts with a room, wall or cut list and calculates how much new material to purchase. Leftover reverses that workflow. The project finder starts with the quantity and dimensions of your existing stock, checks it against a library of practical project recipes, and ranks the projects that make the best use of what you already have.

The match is more useful than a simple square-foot comparison because rectangular materials are checked against real piece dimensions, and lumber or trim ideas are checked against individual cut lengths. Results are still estimates: defects, saw kerf, pattern direction, fasteners, structural requirements and installation rules can change what is actually usable.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Using the leftover-material project finder

01

What does “ready” mean?

For the planning model, your entered stock covers the recipe plus its small reserve. Verify the real material and project before building.

02

Why can area match but a project still fall short?

A piece can contain enough area but still be too short or narrow for the cut that is needed. Piece dimensions matter.

03

Can I share my result?

Yes. The share button creates a URL containing the material dimensions you entered so someone else can reopen the same project search.
